50 years of Mummenschanz: The award-winning pantomime troupe at the Pallas Theater
March 22 @ 9:00 pm - March 23 @ 11:30 pm
Start: 22 March 2024
End: 23 March 2024
Perfomance title: 50 years of Mummenschanz
The award-winning mime troupe from Switzerland, with its charismatic artists, distinctive choreography, wonderful masks and imaginative constructions, comes for the first time to Athens to present the most delightful moments of its 50-year history.
A playful, interactive performance and a poetic experience for all ages.
On Friday 22 and Saturday 23 March, the Greek audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the most famous mime and pantomime theatre in the world, coming for the first time to Athens, at Pallas Theater.
The enchanting world of silence created by MUMMENSCHANZ is not easy to fit into just one category of spectacle.
The company describes itself as “theatre with masks” or “mime theatre” (their name refers to the old English word mummer, meaning mimic). Since their founding in Paris in 1972, MUMMENSCHANZ has grown into a global proposition for contemporary theatre, transcending cultural and linguistic boundaries.
Their three founders, Floriana Frassetto, Andres Bossard and Bernie Schürch, conquered the world without saying a word, using only a purely visual language. Masks on a black background.
To commemorate the anniversary of their foundation, Floriana Frassetto – the poet of silence – has devised a production that will take the audience on a 50-year journey through the fascinating world of MUMMENSCHANZ.
It takes us back to the most popular, successful productions of the past years, with legendary characters such as clay masks and toilet paper faces, the sensitive, airy Giants, the Pipe creature and many other strange objects and shapes, brought to life by the five performers of the company.
The Greek audience has the opportunity to experience this fantastic journey into the world of MUMMENSCHANZ for two unique performances, on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 March at the Pallas Theater.
An imaginative, poetic journey that needs no subtitles, a lively, humorous, affectionate and imaginative extravaganza in the magical world of silence, which no one should miss!
Sometimes even silence becomes deafeningly loud!
