No music has captured the spirit of destiny, fate, and the struggles of the poor quite like Fado, bringing so much joy and a deep sense of empowerment. In Carminho’s family, the Fado tradition runs deep -she’s the daughter of Fado legend Teresa Siqueira- and few artists have modernized Fado as much as she has.
Her debut made waves in Portugal and worldwide, going platinum at home and earning rave reviews internationally. In Brazil, it opened doors to collaborations with legends like Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque, and Nana Caymmi. This led to a follow-up album that blended Fado with Brazilian gems like bossa nova and MPB, along with touches of contemporary pop.
Carminho has recently received a lot of attention for her appearance in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Oscar-winning film Poor Things. In a magical scene, she captivated Emma Stone’s character and the audience, bringing a fresh, modern twist to Fado through her performance.
More recently, she shared the stage with Coldplay and had the honor of performing for Pope Francis during World Youth Day in Lisbon. With these fantastic moments, Carminho continues taking Fado to the world stage.
We’re thrilled to welcome Carminho to Athens for the first time!
