The widely read atmospheric book by Mara Meimaridis, which captivated more than 900.000 readers worldwide, and set a record for television ratings in its adaptation on the small screen by Kostas Koutsomitis in 2005, is now being staged at Pallas Theater.
The company stars Maria Kavoyanni as Euthalia, Smaragda Karidis as Katina, who enchants Memmos Begnis – Konstantinos and Meleti Ilias – Syrio Karamanos. In the decisive role of the witch Attarti, Mrs. Mirka Papakonstantinou.
Stamatis Fassoulis will capture the atmosphere of an emblematic era, taking us 130 years back in a journey to the coast of Smyrna and a story full of magic, spells, perfumes, love and passions.
Smyrna, 1887. Katina is a poor, clever and ruthless Smyrna. Her life changes when she meets Attarti, a Turkish witch, who takes her under her protection. So Katina sets her sights on rising to the top. Love potions, bouillons, limes and magic never go wrong. She manages to marry four men, one better than the other, one richer than the other. As she rises higher in social rank, Katina mingles in their business and capably manages the merchants, the banquets, the tobacconists, reaching one day to become the mistress of all Smyrna. A hundred years later, in a dusty little trunk in the house of Aegina, her scripts, spells and magic were found.
