Sophia Vembo, the “Voice of Victory,” returns through memory, music, and storytelling in an evening dedicated to the truth and soul of Greece. The performance “Sophia Vembo – The Voice that Defeated Fascism” inspired by the 2020 album of the same name featuring Sophia Manou and produced by the Saint Maximus the Greek Institute, will be presented on Tuesday October 14th at 20:00 at Pallas Theater. The event revives memories of the 1940 Greco-Italian War and highlights the timeless power of art in the face of darkness. The songs are performed with unique sensitivity and expression by Sophia Manou whose distinctive voice brings to life the anxieties, hopes, and pride of a generation that made history through its courage.
Accompanying her is the “KANON” Orchestra conducted by renowned composer and guitarist Manolis Androulidakis under the artistic direction of Georgios Demelis.
Through the narration of Natalia Dragoumi and Vasilis Traiforos (nephew of Sophia Vembo) the audience is immersed in vivid and lesser-known aspects of the great singer’s life. Also participating are the Mixed Youth Choir of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens conducted by Pavlos Kordis and the “Choeur du Cœur” Choir of the Franco-Hellenic School Saint Joseph under the direction of Iphigenia Kourousi and Anastasios Sidiropoulos. Together, their voices weave a moving tapestry of memory and hope.
Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Palliative Care Unit “Galilee.”
