A magical spiritual experience for the first time in Athens!
Pallas Theatre | Sunday 28 September 2025 | Start time 21:00
Taiwan’s U-Theatre, one of Asia’s most acclaimed artistic groups, comes to Greece for the first time for a unique performance: the much-discussed work “Sword of Wisdom”. A thrilling synthesis of music, movement, spirituality and theatre, which has traveled to dozens of stages around the world, from New York and London to Moscow and Osaka.
A ritual in rhythm – The art of inner awakening
“Sword of Wisdom” is more than a performance. It is a spectacle-ritual, where the body and sound become tools of inner search. Inspired by four Buddhist verses, the play tells the story of “Brave” – a warrior who, facing fear and ignorance, gradually reaches spiritual clarity and a deep understanding of himself.
With a harmonious composition of traditional percussion, martial arts, dance, Tai Chi, precision and silence, the play transports the viewer to a “magnetic space”, where movement and stillness, strength and tenderness coexist. A journey from the outside to the inner landscape of man.
U-Theatre – The harmony of discipline and freedom
U-Theatre was founded in 1988 by Liu Ruo-Yu, inspired by the theatrical philosophy of Jerzy Grotowski. In 1993, the collaboration with percussionist Huang Chih-Chun radically changed the character of the group, introducing meditation as a core component of training and stage presence. Since then, U-Theatre has developed a unique style, known as “U-Theatre Aesthetics,” which combines Eastern philosophy, Western theatricality, and a deep connection to nature and body awareness.
Each of their performances is a fusion of art and life. A journey of silence and sound, inner awakening and aesthetic perfection.
As artistic director, Huang Chih-Chun says:
“Performance is not about projecting external power,
but about exploring the inner world.”
A global phenomenon on stage
The play has been presented at leading venues such as New York’s Lincoln Center, the Royal Opera House Muscat, the Beijing NCPA, the BAM Next Wave Festival, and dozens of other festivals and cultural centers worldwide.
